The MJS Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) would like to welcome all of 7th and 8th grade students and their families to a start of a wonderful year at Madison Junior School. As you can see from the outside, the MJS is in the midst of major construction to upgrade our facilities and to expand so that the 6th grades will join us next year. What you can't see until you come inside is how hard the faculty and staff have been working to gear up for yet another successful school year in which our students will be challenged both academically and socially.
Our first PTO meeting for this year will be Wednesday, September 26th at 7:30pm. I strongly urge each and every parent to make it a point to attend our meetings. We meet throughout the year at 7:30 PM and this year we will also have two 8:45 AM meetings. In order to be an effective organization, we need to have parent input and feedback to let us know not only when things go well but also when there is a need for change. Please check the district calendar, the MJS PTO Newsletter, and the MJS website for the dates and times of the meetings.
Throughout the year, the PTO sponsors cultural arts programs, student dances, student socials, and other enrichment opportunities to enhance your child's educational experience. In addition, we would like to continue to support the Peer Connections Program that will be initiated this yuear at MJS. Under the leadership of Mrs. Hodges and Ms. Sherrin, our students will have the opportunity to participate in a program that will allow them to ease the transition in the middle school, and become leaders and mentors for each other. It will be a terrific opportunity that will serve them well in the years ahead. These activities require both the volunteer and financial support of our families.
Funds will be raised through:
Look for other fundraisers over the course of the year. September promises to be a busy month. Mark your calendars with the following dates:
Emergency Closing Information The MJS PTO does not call if there is a school closing, delayed opening, or early dismissal due to weather, power failure or other emergencies beyond our control. Information will be announced through e-alerts and will be posted on the district website, www.madisonpublicschools.org (please remember to refresh page!), on radio stations WMTR (AM1250) or WDHA (FM105.5) beginning at 6:45 AM, and on Cable Channel 12. The town fire horn will blast seven times for a school closing and two times for a delayed opening at 6:45 AM and 7:45 AM. If there is a delayed opening, MJS will begin the day with a two hour delayed opening - 9:45 AM, with classes to begin at 9:55 AM. Please discuss a standing early dismissal plan with your child to avoid confusion should the occasion arise.
E- Alerts
E- alerts are a great way to stay on top of what's happening at MJS. If you sign on to the district website, www.madisonpublicschools.org, just click on the School E-Communication link and you will be able to sign up for various e-alerts (school info, sports, district, PTO, etc.)
Back-to-School Supply Kits
If you purchased a "BACK-TO-SCHOOL SUPPLY KIT", they will be handed out on the first day of school during your child's advisory period. You will also need to purchase a 2 inch binder, trapper style is acceptable, to complete your student's supply list. Complete supply lists are available in the MJS office. You can also purchase a gym bag with the Madison "M" logo for $15.00. Contact Lisa Ellis or Andrea Waresk to order a gym bag.
THE MJS PTO NEEDS YOU! There are many opportunities to get involved at MJS and most do not require a big time commitment but provide very necessary support for student activities. Please join us, just complete the "MJS PTO Back-to-School Volunteer Sheet" and send it in with your child on the first day of school.
On behalf of the entire MJS PTO, I thank you for support! We are looking forward to a great year! Please always feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns,
Diane Fastiggi, MJS PTO President
