Absences: All student absences are to be called into the roll call number at 973-593-3151 daily. Students are able to return to school once they are fever free for 24 hours without any medication.
Cold symptoms and allergies: Encourage your child to cover their mouth and nose when sneezing and coughing by using the fold of their elbow (sleeve) or a disposable tissue. Teach your child the importance of hand- washing and practice this healthy habit at home. Good hand-washing practiced frequently can reduce illness.
Hygiene: Every year I am asked to speak to a child or children about their hygiene. Good hygiene is more than just looking neat and clean; it can affect the health and well-being of your child. Good hygiene practices can reduce the spread of disease. Our junior school students are on their way to becoming teenagers and along with this comes unpleasant body odors caused by bacteria. Starting the day with clean hair, body and clothes improves the self esteem of your child, so it is important to teach your child good hygiene habits so that they can feel good about themselves. And don't forget the deodorant, on warm days the air can be pungent.
Medications:
All medications (prescription and over the counter) require a physician's authorization and signature as well as the legal guardians signature in order for the school nurse to administer the medication to your child. If your child is in need of medication that cannot be taken at home and he/she needs to have it administered during school hours, please be sure to send the physician's orders and signed parent permission allowing the nurse to administer the medication. Orders can be faxed to 973-966-1908.
Physical Education Excuses:
All students will take physical education unless he/she has a written and signed doctor’s note excusing the student due to medical illness. Parent's may excuse the child from physical education for two days only with written permission. All notes should be given to the school nurse who will notify the physical education teacher.
