Community Service

The community of Madison and Madison High School have a long tradition of helping those in need. Whether through extracurricular activities like Key Club and Interact or through service elective offerings, MHS students and their faculty advisors make a significant and positive impact on the school and surrounding community each and every day.

Members of the school and community have designed an expanded service learning program intended to recognize ongoing volunteerism, increase the number of volunteer opportunities available to students and connect volunteer service more directly to the curriculum. Under this program, students can sign up for two elective classes that focus on volunteer service--Student Volunteer Program and Advanced Service Project.  For more information about these courses please click here.

In an effort to better publicize ongoing volunteer projects and encourage greater school and community participation, MHS will regularly post upcoming volunteer activities to the calendar and highlight some of the many recently completed service projects.  We have also created a Volunteer Service Bulletin Board, located in A-Hall, where many different kinds of volunteer opportunities are listed.

Students are encouraged to document their volunteer service so that we can recognize their efforts at the annual Volunteer Fair and Awards Assembly.  During the assembly program, students receive awards for completing in excess of 25, 50 and 100 hours of volunteer service per calander year.  To document their service hours students are asked to complete a Volunteer Service Tracking Form, available in the Social Studies office, posted on the Volunteer Service Bulletin Board or online by clicking here.

To learn more about any of the service opportunities, contact Mark De Biasse, Service Learning Coordinator at 973-593-3134 or debiassem@madisonpublicschools.org. Visit the Clubs and Activities website section for information about service organizations in the school.
