GRADES
Since band is an academic class students are given a letter grade
The Breakdown is simple:

20 points         lesson performance
20 points         signed practice charts
45 points         band performace / BEHAVIOR
15 points         playing / written exams

Bonus Credit:   Attending a live instrumental musical performance
                         Auditioning for regional band
Participating in Morris Union Jointure Bands

Minus Credit:    Late to band without an excuse
                         Continuous talking in class
Not prepared with instrument, folder, and pencil
Leaving your instrument or folder out

Note to parents:  Your child should bring home a practice chart each week for you to sign,  Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  The music department recommendation is to have students practice an average of 120 minutes per week.  Most students practice 20 minutes over the course of six days.
Individual practice is the foundation for success in music.

HONORS BANDS
1.  Region Band - This is an ensemble that students may audition for .  Each student must play a prepared solo, a series of scales, and a short sight-reading example.  This is for advanced students.  Solos are available now either see me or go to www.njsma.com  I will be recommending advanced students to audition for this.

2.  Morris Union Jointure Commission Honors Bands - These ensembles rehearse in April and May for a festival in June.  Students are recommended by directors, there are no auditions.  Students participate from eleven different school districts!
