April 7, 2017
I can't believe spring break is upon us! I hope the students enjoy the week off, get fresh air, and plenty of rest! There are several attachments for your review this week, including information about Madison's annual Easter Fun Fest and Parent/Daughter Workshops called "Nine Tools for True Friendships." This is a unique opportunity for second and third grade girls as they begin to navigate pre-adolescent friendships.
I would like to inform all 3rd - 5th grade parents of a change in the PARCC testing schedule. There will be NO PARCC testing on Thursday, April 27th, due to "Bring Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day." We know many corporations plan fun days for our students, and we encourage participation if your child has such an opportunity. If you do plan to bring your child to work, please mention that when you phone/email the absence. PARCC testing will resume on Friday, April 28th, which will be the last day of PARCC testing. Please see the attached revised schedule.
Also, please be reminded that Monday, April 24th and Tuesday, April 25th are early dismissal days at 12:45 P.M. due to parent/teacher conferences. Pizza will be served if pre-ordered through the PTO. AM Kindergarten classes are from 8:40 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. PM Kindergarten classes are from 10:40 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
The Madison School District will be conducting a poster contest centered around the theme of respect. Please see the attachment for more information.
Congratulations to TJS's Owen Armstrong on his selection of design for the annual May Day t-shirts!! Owen is a talented third grader and this marks the third year in a row a TJS student has been selected. Way to go, Owen, we are proud of you!! Below, please find an important message from Steven Alcorn about how you can help out at Torey J. in May!
My name is Steven Alcorn and I will be coordinating May Day - Torey J. - 2017. It will be Saturday, May 6, and as always there will be beautification efforts all over town (see www.rosenet.org/391/may-day for more info, and to possibly volunteer for work elsewhere in town).
Our efforts at Torey J. will be from approximately 8:30-11:00 (8:00 for anyone who wishes to help set up), and there will be an after-party (pizza, music, etc.) at 11:00 at the Hartley Dodge building in town (across from train station). The majority of our efforts will be general outdoor cleanup/weeding/mulching/trimming, but we will try and find other projects too.
Please reply to me at MayDay.ToreyJ@gmail.com with your name, the number of volunteers in your family, troop, etc., and how many of each shirt size you will need (Available sizes: Youth Large, Adult M, L, XL, XXL). I need to get the final shirt tally in by April 21, so please reply prior to that.
The town and I will provide some supplies, but they are limited, so PLEASE bring any of the following you can (wheelbarrows, pitchforks, rakes, gloves, clippers/shears). And as with anything you bring/send to school - it's best you put your name on it.
We will provide plenty of water and healthy snacks. Thanks so much, and I look forward to seeing you all!
And finally, as the weather is beginning to change, Mrs. Crescas would like to remind you of steps you can take to prevent mosquito larvae from hatching. Here's a link to a flyer to "Fight the Bite".
