It was great seeing you at Back to School Night!  The faculty and staff did an amazing job hosting the evening and I'm very proud of their efforts!  I hope you found the classroom presentations helpful and informative.

    Instructional Corner:

The reason Back to School Night was so successful is the dedication and collegiality of the staff.  When educators and parents communicate, the bulk of it is centered around student experience, growth and achievement, and rightfully so!  As I mentioned at BTSN,  Torey J. has 332 students, roughly 50 faculty/staff members, hundreds of parents, relatives, and caregivers that contribute to the identity of our school.   Behind the scenes, the staff has its own dynamic, and we are also part of the larger district community.  The entire staff at TJS is committed to working together towards common goals and embraces David Weinberger's idea that the "smartest person in the room is the room itself."

In just the first few weeks, the TJS staff has accomplished a great deal!  Today, all second, third, and fourth graders participated in their first "Jaguar Buddies" session to not only increase reading fluency but make connections with students at other grade levels.  On Tuesday, a school-wide, year long Reading Challenge will kick off.  The staff has a fun surprise in store for the students and can't wait for them to see it!  (I'll share it with you next week!)  Countless staff members have relayed their hopes and goals for the year.  I love it when a teacher seeks me out to tell me she is "jazzed" about something or eager to explore a new practice.  Our new staff members sensed this positivity immediately and are already benefitting from the support at Torey J.  I walked into a fourth grade classroom this week to hear a group of students singing their newly composed class song!  When a group of people work together to continually go above and beyond, it fosters a positive and productive environment that the students share in.  Another reason to be "Proud to say, you go to Torey J.!"
