October 20, 2017
We had quite a busy week here at TJS! In addition to our Safety Week spirit days, the students participated in Halloween and fire safety assemblies. Thank you to our local fire and police departments for supporting our schools!
Don't forget, we will be having a two-hour delayed opening on Thursday, October 26th. Our doors will open at 10:30 A.M. and lunch will be served.
Halloween: Those students choosing to dress up are encouraged to come to school in costume to enjoy the day. Costumes should be school appropriate (e.g. no midriff baring, low cut) and all hair and makeup preparation should be done prior to school. If a costume is bulky or itchy, please have your child wear clothing underneath, so that the costume can be removed easily. Students who choose to dress in costume may not bring any item to school that depicts violence such as plastic or fake weapons (swords, guns, knives, pitchforks, etc.), bloody or gory masks, or any sharp objects. Due to supervisory constraints, we cannot allow students to change into costumes during lunch periods.
If you choose to pick up your child at lunch to go home and change, the recess/lunch schedule is as follows:
KWRAP: 11:25 A.M. - 12:25 P.M.
Grades 3 & 4: 11:20 A.M. - 12:10 P.M.
Grades 1, 2, & 5: 11:55 A.M. - 12:45 P.M.
Please sign your child out at the start of the period and return to school by the end of the period.
Parties will take place after the lunch periods. Teachers will coordinate start times with room representatives. The parade will begin at 2:15 P.M. and the talented MHS Marching Dodgers will join us! All families are invited to attend the parade, weather permitting, on the playground.
Instructional Corner: Reader's Theater
As I stopped by Mrs. Niper's second grade classroom this week, the students were eager to participate in Reader's Theater, an instructional practice they are already familiar with, as it is implemented across several grade levels. Reader's Theater is a fun way to increase fluency and actively engage students in the learning process. What the students don't realize is that the repeated reading, focus on inflection and intonation, and assuming the role of a character helps them read more fluently and connect with characters at a higher level. Some added benefits are the collaboration and teamwork necessary to perform and boost in students' self confidence. No fancy costumes are required to have so much fun while reading!
