December 8, 2017What a week we had! Our band, chorus, and orchestra members are busy preparing for next week's concert, fourth graders and kindergarteners participated in educational enrichment, second through fifth graders were treated to an amazing puppet show called "The Town that Fought Hate," the first family movie night was a success, and the holiday workshop is tomorrow! Thanks so much to the PTO for making many of these events possible. On , we will have a "Wild West" spirit day to celebrate our arrival in Texas as part of our school-wide reading challenge. Grab your boots and hat! On , we will have a two hour delayed opening for staff professional development. Please review the dates listed below and refer to the attached December calendar. Also, check out another after school enrichment opportunity for first and second graders in the PTO section. There is also information attached regarding health guidelines during cold and flu season. As we have progressed into the school year, more students are purchasing snacks in the cafeteria. You may want to check your child's lunch account to monitor purchases, as students are purchasing numerous snacks, many of which are found uneaten and unwrapped at the end of each lunch period. If you would like any sort of restrictions placed on your child's account, please call Pomptonian at (973) 593-3190.The first trimester has ended and teachers are finalizing report cards. Volunteering for recess or lunch duty is a great way to become involved at TJS and help all students have a safe lunch period. We recognize it's difficult to stop what you are doing in the middle of the day, but your presence is appreciated! The added eyes provide greater supervision and allow for extra sets of hands, in the event a teacher needs to escort a student to the building.
It is extremely helpful to have extra volunteers serve as a referee for ball games such as soccer, basketball, and kickball. Added adult supervision helps ensure the game rules are followed in a fair manner. While this is a fun time for play, students do need reminders to practice respectful and safe behavior. Teachers are available to deal with any behavioral issues that may arise, but you can help us make sure safe play is happening at all times. Students often need to be reminded to use an appropriate level of competitive spirit which is consistent with recess.
We hope you'll consider volunteering soon! To sign up, click here, or email tjspto.lunchrecessvolunt
