We are just about in the home stretch of 2017!  We have one full week left of school left, including a full day on Friday, December 22nd.  Congrats to all the students who participated in the band, chorus, and orchestra concert this week.  I was so proud at how well the students performed!  It's amazing to think that it's the first year for many of them, and they were awesome.   A special thanks to the MMA, who supports our music and arts programs, helping to make these experiences possible for the students.  Please consider joining this great organization for $20 by visitinghere.

We were unable to get outside for recess today;  however, please know that every effort is made to get the students outdoors, temperature and windchill permitting.  Please send your children to school with appropriate outerwear and footwear during the winter months.  If there is snow on the ground, students wearing boots may have access to to the field.  Students with sneakers or other types of footwear will be permitted on the blacktop and playground equipment.  We have MANY unclaimed gloves and jackets.  Please label all belongings with your child's name.  Feel free to check our "Lost and Found," located right inside the main entrance.

Report cards were released in Genesis yesterday.  Please login to your child's account to access the document.  Benchmark documents can be found at https://www.madisonpublicschools.org/domain/645.

    PTO Reminders:

The PTO Needs YOU for Lunch/Recess Duty! Volunteering for recess or lunch duty is a great way to become involved at TJS and help all students have a safe lunch period.  We recognize it's difficult to stop what you are doing in the middle of the day, but your presence is appreciated! The added eyes provide greater supervision and allow for extra sets of hands, in the event a teacher needs to escort a student to the building.

It is extremely helpful to have extra volunteers serve as a referee for ball games such as soccer, basketball, and kickball. Added adult supervision helps ensure the game rules are followed in a fair manner.  While this is a fun time for play, students do need reminders to practice respectful and safe behavior.  Teachers are available to deal with any behavioral issues that may arise, but you can help us make sure safe play is happening at all times.  Students often need to be reminded to use an appropriate level of competitive spirit which is consistent with recess.

We hope you'll consider volunteering soon! To sign up, click here, or email tjspto.lunchrecessvolunteers@gmail.com.
