What a soggy end to the week, to say the least!  Although summer seems like it may never come, please review the attachment regarding Madison's Summer Arts Programs.
Next week, we will be celebrating "Read Across America," and the teachers have a lot of fun activities planned for the classrooms.  We will have two spirit days.  Wednesday is "Wacky Wednesday" and Friday is Pajama Day.  Please refer to the March calendar for more information about everything going on this month!
Thank you to the PTO and all who attended Bingo Night.  It was a great night!  This week, the students were also treated to a visit from the Harlem Wizards in anticipation of the big game at MHS.  It's always a popular event, so be sure to check out the attached flyer for information on how to get tickets.
Fifth grade parents -- don't forget, the MJS parent orientation is Tuesday night at 7:00 P.M.  Please see the attachment for more information.  This evening is for parents only.
Our long awaited mural project begins next week and I couldn't be more excited to work with artist, Caren Frost Olmsted, as she brings the students' vision of TJS and Madison to life in our front lobby.  It will take several weeks for the mural to be completed.  Our annual Curriculum Night is planned for Thursday, April 19th at 7:00 P.M. as a way to 'unveil' the mural to the public, as well as celebrate all that's being accomplished in the classroom.  Mark your calendars!

Our second graders were fortunate to participate in the 2nd and 7th Reading Program this week.  This program, meant to promote literacy and character education, takes place across the country.  Mr. Sean Dowling, Madison's Athletic Director, connected with the organization and brought high school athletes, who have proven themselves as leaders and role models, to our second grade classrooms.  They read a book together with an anti-bullying theme and each student received a copy of the book.  The athletes facilitated discussions around respecting individual differences, diversity, and appreciating the unique talents of individuals.  They also discussed the importance of reading, perseverance, determination, and the value of hard work to attain goals.  The students were able to understand the connection between hard work now and how that can pay off later in life.  They were thrilled to meet the athletes and had many questions about life at MHS.  The athletes, all TJS grads, were honored to be giving back to their former school.  For more information regarding the foundation and program, visit https://www.secondandseven.com/.
