As we get ready to turn the calendar to November next week, there is much to share regarding upcoming events!
Our Halloween parade will begin at 2:15 P.M. on Wednesday, October 31st. All families are invited to attend. Please proceed directly to the playground area. The MHS Marching Dodgers will kick off the parade and perform in the center of the field. Please stand on the perimeter of the field and keep the paths clear for the students.
Just a few Halloween reminders.....Those students choosing to dress up are encouraged to come to school in costume to enjoy the day. Costumes should be school appropriate (in-line with dress code expectations) and all hair and makeup preparation should be done prior to school. If a costume is bulky or itchy, please have your child wear clothing underneath, so that the costume can be removed easily. Students who choose to dress in costume may not bring any item to school that depicts violence such as plastic or fake weapons (swords, guns, knives, pitchforks, etc.), bloody or gory masks, or any sharp objects. Due to supervisory constraints, we cannot allow students to change into costumes during lunch periods.
If you choose to pick up your child at lunch to go home and change, the recess/lunch schedule is as follows:
KWRAP: 11:25 A.M. - 12:25 P.M.
Grades 1 & 3: 11:20 A.M. - 12:10 P.M.
Grades 2, 4, & 5: 11:55 A.M. - 12:45 P.M.
Please notify the main office/teacher in advance of picking up and sign your child out at the start of the period and return to school by the end of the period.
The annual Scholastic Book Fair, sponsored by the PTO, is right around the corner! There are several attachments for your review. Each year, we hold a poster contest in the weeks leading up to the Book Fair that the students love participating in. This year's theme is "Enchanted Forest." Instructions are attached and we have paper in the main office, so be sure to have your child to stop by. The Book Fair will kick off with a Family Event on Saturday, November 17th from 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. with so many fun activities planned - see the attachment for the schedule. All students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during school, either on Monday, November 19th or Tuesday, November 20th. This is also the week of Parent/Teacher Conferences and the Book Fair will have evening hours, as well. The PTO needs help in staffing the Book Fair with volunteers. In the "Book Fair Information Sheet," you'll find a link to the sign-up genius and will also be able to see when your child's class is attending, if you would like to volunteer during that time. A huge THANK YOU to Fiona Moore, Valerie Librizzi and Lori Torell, our Book Fair Co-Chairs this year.
The next "Coffee with the Superintendent" will be held here at Torey J. on Tuesday, November 6th at 7:00 P.M. in the Jaguar Jungle. It's a great way to learn about everything going on in the district and ask questions in an informal setting. Don't miss it!
NEA's American Education Week will be recognized the week of November 12th. We invite you to observe education in motion and attend an open house on Thursday, November 12th from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. or 1:00 - 2:00 P.M. This is a time to catch a glimpse of a typical school day for your child. Chairs will be set up in the classrooms for you to observe teaching and learning. If your child's class attends a 'special,' such as music or physical education during those times, you will travel with the class to the special. The suggested visitation time is approximately 20 minutes. We ask that you kindly refrain from any cell phone use, including taking pictures or videos, during this time. You may enter through the front doors to check-in and receive a visitor's pass.
Important Reminder - Glenwild Circle is an open road with residents. Please use the sidewalks during arrival and dismissal, as residents must be able to pull in/out of their driveways. Please encourage your children to do the same. We want everyone to stay safe!
