• Thank you for coming out for our annual Halloween parade!  It's always a fun day to spend with the students and the weather finally cooperated with us for a change.

Please be reminded that school are closed next Thursday and Friday, November 8th and 9th.

The annual Scholastic Book Fair, sponsored by the PTO, is right around the corner!  There are several attachments for your review.  Each year, we hold a poster contest in the weeks leading up to the Book Fair that the students love participating in.  This year's theme is "Enchanted Forest."  Instructions are attached and we have paper in the main office, so be sure to have your child to stop by.  The deadline for submission is Wednesday, November 7th, so there is still time!  The Book Fair will kick off with a Family Event on Saturday, November 17th from 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. with so many fun activities planned - see the attachment for the schedule.  All students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during school, either on Monday, November 19th or Tuesday, November 20th.  This is also the week of Parent/Teacher Conferences and the Book Fair will have evening hours, as well.  The PTO needs help in staffing the Book Fair with volunteers.  In the "Book Fair Information Sheet," you'll find a link to the sign-up genius and will also be able to see when your child's class is attending, if you would like to volunteer during that time.  A huge THANK YOU to Fiona Moore, Valerie Librizzi and Lori Torell, our Book Fair Co-Chairs this year.

The next "Coffee with the Superintendent" will be held here at Torey J. on Tuesday, November 6th at 7:00 P.M. in the Jaguar Jungle.  It's a great way to learn about everything going on in the district and ask questions in an informal setting.  Don't miss it!

NEA's American Education Week will be recognized the week of November 12th.  We invite you to observe education in motion and attend an open house on Thursday, November 12th from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. or 1:00 - 2:00 P.M.  This is a time to catch a glimpse of a typical school day for your child.  Chairs will be set up in the classrooms for you to observe teaching and learning.  If your child's class attends a 'special,' such as music or physical education during those times, you will travel with the class to the special.  The suggested visitation time is approximately 20 minutes.  We ask that you kindly refrain from any cell phone use, including taking pictures or videos, during this time.  You may enter through the front doors to check-in and receive a visitor's pass.

Important Reminder - Glenwild Circle is an open road with residents.  Please use the sidewalks during arrival and dismissal, as residents must be able to pull in/out of their driveways.  Please encourage your children to do the same.  We want everyone to stay safe!

    Guidance Update:

This week I had the pleasure of teaching the first in a series of six conflict/resolution lessons, addressing perspective and active listening, to each of our fifth grade classes.  As part of our comprehensive school counseling program, all students in grades K-5 will learn the origin and escalation of conflict, skills to productively address conflict and how to overcome roadblocks to resolution.  Lessons are differentiated by age, preventative in nature and learning appropriate conflict resolution skills meets a fundamental need of each child.

I am thrilled to report that there were an overwhelming number of students who applied to be a part of the AAA safety patrol.  All applications were accepted and as a result, I’ve created two patrol sessions, winter and spring. Students received notices this week with information regarding their session slot.  I’m excited to begin training my winter session patrollers this coming Monday! -Judy Bletcher
