I hope you are enjoying the long weekend! The next week and a half will be quite busy at TJS. Attached, please find the PTO November Calendar for your reference. Thank you to the PTO for arranging for all the cultural and educational enrichment programs we have throughout the month.
The annual Scholastic Book Fair, sponsored by the PTO, is just days away! The winners of the Book Fair Poster Contest will be announced on Monday, November 12th. Your children will enjoy school-wide D.E.A.R. time on Friday, November 16th in preparation for The Book Fair Family Event on Saturday, November 17th from 10:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. There is a lot planned - see the attachment for the schedule.
During the event on Saturday, the TJS Learning Garden Committee will host an open house from 9:30 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. You can come in the garden and take a look around, see what the children planted this fall, help plant some bulbs for spring if you like, enjoy some hot cider and donuts, and order your holiday flowers! To follow the progress of the garden and learn more about the open house, please visit their new Facebook page here.
All students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair during school, either on Monday, November 19th or Tuesday, November 20th. This is also the week of Parent/Teacher Conferences and the Book Fair will have evening hours, as well. The PTO needs help in staffing the Book Fair with volunteers. In the "Book Fair Information Sheet," you'll find a link to the sign-up genius and will also be able to see when your child's class is attending, if you would like to volunteer during that time. A huge THANK YOU to Fiona Moore, Valerie Librizzi and Lori Torell, our Book Fair Co-Chairs this year.
Don't forget we will be having an open house for parents on Thursday, November 15th to see education in motion. This is a time to catch a glimpse of a typical school day for your child. Chairs will be set up in the classrooms for you to observe teaching and learning. The teachers will not be conducting interactive lessons and attendance is completely optional. If your child's class attends a 'special,' such as music or physical education during those times, you will travel with the class to the special. The suggested visitation time is approximately 20 minutes. We kindly ask that you refrain from any cell phone use, including taking pictures or videos, during this time. This event is for parents only, please do not bring younger siblings. You may enter through the front doors to check-in and receive a visitor's pass.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held Monday, November 19th and Tuesday, November 20th. If you do not have a conference time scheduled, please contact your child's teacher directly. These are early dismissal days. There will be no lunch service in the cafeteria. Pizza will be served if it was pre-ordered through the PTO. Please be reminded of kindergarten hours: AM Kindergarten, 8:40 A.M. - 10:30 A.M., PM Kindergarten, 10:40 A.M. - 12:45 P.M.
Attendance policy - I hope you had the time to read Mr. Schwarz's most recent newsletter that referenced the district's attendance regulation and policy. While we understand that students may be absent from school for a variety of reasons from time to time, family events and vacations are not considered excused absences, even if you communicate the absences to us in advance. For more information, please refer to Board Regulation 5200.
