• Just a reminder we will be celebrating "Read Across America" next week and have many activities and spirit days planned.  Please review the calendar section for all the important dates we have coming up.
Now that March is here, it's time to start thinking about spring and summer!  Please review that attachment regarding submissions for the May Day t-shirt contest and the Madison Summer Arts brochure.  Information regarding the Harlem Wizards game at MHS in April is also attached.
Friday, March 8th is the TJS annual musical, "The Little Mermaid."  Come see Ariel and the gang live on stage next Friday night at 7:00 P.M.  Students will be treated to a dress rehearsal during the school day.
Remember to get your tickets for the TJS Adult Social on Saturday, March 9th.  The event will be held at Drew University's Meade Hall and begins at 7:30 P.M.
    Instructional Corner:
It's interesting that children today don't really watch much television - they watch their devices!  If your kids are anything like mine, watching people do everyday tasks on YouTube seems to be a favorite.  This week, Mr. Stricchiola brought reality t.v. to his classroom with "Take Apart Tuesday," and fostered discovery and inquiry in the process.  Students dismantled a variety of household objects and electronics, such as remote controls, to better understand the mechanics that allow them to function.  The students also learned how to use screwdrivers and other tools and took appropriate safety measures.  It was worthwhile endeavor that engaged the students and left them wanting more!
    Guidance Update:

It’s hard to believe with snow on the ground that we are already gearing up for spring, but I am happy to share that the spring AAA Safety Patrollers will begin training and duty this coming Monday, March 4.  Notices went home this week with our newest participants. A HUGE shout out to our winter patrollers, some of whom are beginning their “retirement” this weekend, others who have chosen to continue working in the spring.  Overall, they have truly done a magnificent job keeping our students safe during our transitions between recess and lunchtime. Patrollers have been enjoying some additional responsibilities including assisting with kindergarten dismissal, keeping track of the patrol roster and designating spots on the patrol map.

Fifth grade parents, please be on the lookout for an email regarding “Stress Busters,” a small group intervention for students who could benefit from additional stress management strategies.  I will be be running weekly lunch groups beginning the week of March 25. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. bletcherj@madisonnjps.org
