• I hope you are enjoying the warm weather this morning before the rain sets in.  It was great welcoming the students back after spring break.  This time of year tends to move very quickly and there are many events coming up.  There are quite a few attachments for your review, as well.   Don't forget it's time to nominate a teacher and educational services professional of the year!  The district is seeking one teacher and ESP per building.  An educational services professional refers to guidance counselors, Child Study Team members, therapists, nurses, reading specialists, and more.  We have so many dedicated educators working with students in a variety of capacities.  The eligibility criteria is attached for your reference, as well as a nomination form.  Please return completed nomination forms to me by April 29, 2019.  This is a great way to thank a teacher or ESP who has shown compassion, dedication, and innovation.

Fifth Grade Parents:  Just a reminder your children will attend an orientation at Madison Junior School the morning of May 2nd.  Parents are invited that evening at 6:30 P.M.  Invitations are attached.  The district will provide bussing for the students that day, and they will return to TJS in time for lunch.

    May Day:
    Hello everyone,
Time again for May Day - Torey J.  It will be Saturday, May 4, and as always there will be beautification efforts all over town.  Our efforts at Torey J. will be from approximately 8:30-11:00 (8:00 for anyone who wishes to help set up).  The work will be be general outdoor cleanup/weeding/mulching/trimming.  Please reply to me at MayDay.ToreyJ@gmail.com with your name, the number of volunteers in your family, troop, etc., and how many of each shirt size you will need (Available sizes: Youth medium, Youth Large, Adult M, L, XL, XXL). The town and I will provide some supplies, but they are limited, so PLEASE bring any of the following you can (wheelbarrows, pitchforks, rakes, gloves, clippers/shears).  And as with anything you bring/send to school - it's best you put your name on it.  We will provide water and snacks.  Thanks so much, and I look forward to seeing you all!

    Guidance Update:

An important part of our comprehensive school counseling program is bringing students together in meaningful and impactful ways.  Next week, our fifth grade Peer Leaders will be visiting our second grade classrooms to introduce our new Peer Mentoring program. The program will be open to all second graders and each one will receive an invitation to be a part of this great opportunity.  Second graders who join will be assigned a fifth grade mentor. Mentors have been busy planning ice breakers, games, lessons and projects to complete with their future mentees. They are super excited to get started! Mentoring will take place every Friday during the lunch period, throughout the month of May.  Please be on the look-out for more information coming home next week, second grade families! Best, Judy Bletcher
