As we approach the end of school rush, I’d like to take a few moments to reflect on our school-wide counseling goals and achievements. My primary goal this year was to create, based on data collected, a comprehensive school counseling program that meets the social and emotional needs of every child at Torey J. While school wide change can be challenging, for a variety of reasons, I believe that we have made some very positive steps this year. Our Win-Win school climate initiative was successful with over 96% of students scoring 80% or greater (the vast majority scored 100%) on the post assessment given after instruction. We are celebrating this by including a Win-Win photo booth at our upcoming field day and students across grade levels are creating signage to hang at the event. All of our new counseling initiatives, such as Peer Mentoring and AAA Safety Patrol, were focused primarily on the need to provide students across grade levels leadership opportunities. My K-5 classroom instruction this year was focused on a practical life skill, students understanding the nature of conflict and learning how to respond in productive ways. While I recognize that no one program is perfect and that there is always room for improvement, I am sincerely proud of the progress we’ve made this year and look forward to continued growth in years to come. Best, Judy Bletcher
