Dr. Joseph Vespignani, Director of Human Resources
Dr. Joseph Vespignani has served as the Director of Human Resources since January 2019. In this role, he provides leadership in facilitating HR processes, building staff wellness and professional growth programs, and recruiting talented and diverse educators. He also supervises the payroll and health benefits processes for the district and serves as the district Affirmative Action Officer.
Prior to joining Madison, Dr. Vespignani was the principal of Salvatore R. Calabro Elementary School in the Hoboken Public Schools. By achieving significant progress in student growth, he guided the school to rank in the 96th percentile in the state. Throughout his career, he also served as a middle school vice principal, elementary school Spanish teacher, and high school soccer coach. Dr. Vespignani holds five certifications from the New Jersey Department of Education including Teacher of Spanish, Elementary School Teacher, Supervisor, Principal, and School Administrator.
A graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham in 2001, Dr. Vespignani completed a B.A. in Spanish and Master of Arts in Teaching through the QUEST Program. He then earned his principal certification through the NJEXCEL program in 2008. He went on to earn his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Rowan University in 2016. His research focused on bridging the gap between pre-service and the workplace as well as support for non-tenured teachers. He has been published in the NJEA Review and twice in the NJPSA journal Educational Viewpoints in the area of personnel.
