• I hope you and your children are looking forward to the weekend!  We had a very smooth opening to the school year and as always, the faculty and staff at TJS appreciate and value your support.  We were proud to welcome our first full-day kindergarten class this year!  The students were amazing and everyone has adjusted nicely.

There is a lot of information in this week's update.  Please be sure to read the PTO section carefully and review all the attachments.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 11th at 7:00 P.M.  Please remember, this event is for parents only and provides an opportunity to meet the teachers and gain a better understanding of expectations and routines for the year.  Our doors will open at 6:30 P.M. for you to learn more about all the amazing work the PTO does to enrich the educational experience for the students.  You'll be able to pay dues, sign up for pizza days, order mums, check out the TJS spirit wear, and register for the "Back-to-School Fiesta" on September 13th.  The Madison Education Foundation (MEF) will also have an informational table.  Classrooms will not be accessible until opening remarks conclude, and I kindly request all parents remain in the Jaguar Jungle until approximately 7:25 P.M.  Please see the attached Back-to-School Night Agenda for more information.

    Arrival/Dismissal:
This summer, I met with Mayor Conley and members of the police department to discuss pedestrian safety on Glenwild Road and Glenwild Circle.  Next summer, sidewalks and curb extensions will be installed on the Drew side of Glenwild, thanks to grant money the borough has secured.  Please be mindful that the streets do not close during arrival and dismissal.  They are open roads and residents need to be able to access their driveways to pull in/out, as needed.  Please use the existing sidewalks, especially the ones on Glenwild Circle and cross at crosswalks with crossing guards.  Speak to your children regarding street safety and model proper safety procedures for them.  Just as we should not use our phones while driving, the same holds true while walking and biking!  Pedestrian accidents occur all too often due to pedestrian negligence.  Our goal is the same as yours, to keep all residents of Madison safe and able to responsibly enjoy such a beautiful, walking community.

    Guidance Office:

Welcome back!  A new school year always brings a sense of freshness and the prospect of achieving great things together.  Over the summer I had the opportunity to rewrite our district's K-5 guidance curriculum. It was wonderful to be able to reflect back on our school wide programming and practices, make adjustments, and really focus on our specific needs.   The three core units that I will be teaching across grade levels this year are titled: empathy, emotional regulation, and social problem solving. Each unit includes dynamic, hands-on differentiated lessons and activities. I’m really looking forward to implementing our new curriculum and believe that it is an integral part of our comprehensive school counseling program here at Torey J.

I want to give a special shout-out to all of our brand new TJS Jaguars!  We hosted a new student lunch today that was very well attended. Our new students reported that are developing new friendships, happy, and excited to come to school everyday.  Wishing everyone a safe and happy weekend! Best, Judy Bletcher
