Driver Education is a required course for all sophomores. This nine week course is designed to meet the state mandate of thirty hours of classroom theory. Driver Education is offered to all sophomores during the first marking period. Driver Education fulfills the health portion of the Physical Education requirement during sophomore year.The objective of Driver Education is to prepare all tenth grade students to successfully pass the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicle Driver’s Written Exam. The Driver Education course will be taught in a classroom setting. Students will be given a New Jersey State Driving Manual that will serve as their textbook for the course. Additional information will be supplemented through lectures, videos, handouts and current event discussions and assignments. Students will be periodically assessed through teacher designed quizzes. At the conclusion of this nine week course, students will be expected to achieve an 80% or better on the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicle Driver’s Written Exam. In addition to passing the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicle Driver’s Written Exam, the student must pass a vision test.At the conclusion of this nine week Driver Education course, those students that have achieved an 80% or better on the New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicle Driver’s Written Exam and has successfully passed a vision test will be given a certification card which will enable them to begin contacting driving schools in order to fulfill their six hours requirement of practice driving. Madison High School does not offer behind the wheel practice driving. Parents and students must contact an independent driving school to complete the six hour requirement of practice driving.Once a student has completed the six hours of behind the wheel training, the student at the age of 16 is eligible for a drivers permit. Upon request, the Driver Education teacher will provide the student with a certification sheet verifying that thirty hours of classroom theory has been completed.Parents or students having additional questions regarding Driver Education can reach me at firstname.lastname@example.org at anytime!
All written assignments must be submitted through Google Classroom by the deadline posted. Any assignment submitted late will result in a ZERO for the assignment.
Class Conduct (50 Points)
5 points will be deducted off the Conduct grade for the following:
Late to Class
Cell Phone Use
Improper use of the bathroon/hallway pass
Non-participation in activities
