We have two wonderful events coming up for students to engage in community service. The first is “TJS Gives Back” on January 21 and the other is the annual TJS Souper Bowl! Please see below and attached for more information about these programs. You’ll also note exciting events on the way from the PTO as well as two opportunities to meet the new TJS principal on January 28! Finally, please see attached for information on “Give Kids A Smile Day."
I want to say a huge thank you to you, the TJS parent community for all of the food and monetary donations in preparation for “TJS Gives Back.” Students raised over $290 and donated hundreds of boxes of food and water containers. I am so excited to see all of our students, grades K-5 learning more about BRIDGES and bagging lunches this coming Tuesday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior's legacy. Again, a big thank you to the TJS PTO for supporting this initiative and to the 5th Grade Peer leaders who spent their Wednesday afternoon sorting and counting. In other counseling news, I delivered lessons this week to all fifth grade classrooms. The activity was titled, “The Cards We’re Dealt.” Students were given a new identity (For example, you are one of eight children, or, your family is poor) and were then asked a series of questions about how their lives would be altered. This then lead to a robust discussion about identity, bias and perception. Best, Judy Bletcher
