    1.      Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music

    2.      Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music

    3.      Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments

    4.      Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines

    5.      Reading and notating music

    6.      Listening to, analyzing, and describing music

    7.      Evaluating music and music performances

    8.      Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts

    9.      Understanding music in relation to history and culture



    New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Music


    1.1           (Aesthetics) All students will use aesthetic knowledge in the creation of and in response to music.

    1.2           (Creation and Performance)  All students will utilize those skills, media, methods, and technologies appropriate to each art form in the creation, performance, and presentation of music.

    1.3           (Elements and Principles)  All students will demonstrate an understanding of the elements and principles of music.

    1.4           (Critique)  All students will develop, apply and reflect upon knowledge of the process of critique. 

    1.5           (History/Culture)  All students will understand and analyze the role, development, and continuing influence of the arts in relation to world cultures, history, and society.
