• AP  Italian Language and Culture
    Course Description: The AP Italian Language and Culture course emphasizes communication by applying interpersonal, interpretive and presentational skills in real-life situations.  This includes vocabulary usage, language control, communication strategies and cultural awareness.  the AP Italian Language and Culture course strives not to overemphasize grammatical accuracy at the expense of communication.  To best facilitate the study of language an culture, the course is taught exclusively in Italian.  The AP Italian and Language and Culture course engages students in an exploration of culture in both contemporary and historical contexts.
    The AP Italian Language and Culture course is centered around six themes:
    • Beauty and Aesthetics
    • contemporary Life
    • Families and communities
    • Global Challenges
    • Personal and Public Identities
    • Science and Technology

    Themes facilitate the initegration of languae, content, and culture and promote the use of the language in a variety of contexts.  All student senrolled in the course are required to take the AP Italian Language Exam. To record oral Italain assignments, alla student are assigned a headset with a microphone.


    Texts and materials:  Immagina by Vista Higher Learning; Ponti by Giuseppe Cavatorta; Ace the Ap Italian Language and Culture Exam by Edizioni Farinelli and various authentic materials

    Grading policy: A percentage is assigned to the two main portions of the course: the unite content including vocabulary, grammar, and culture, and exam practice which includes reading comprehension, listening comprehension, speaking and writing.  Assignments, quizzes and tests are worth a number of points witihin the percentage category.  Use of English and .or incomplete work will result in a lower Marking period grade.

    Late work and makeup policy:  Assignments turned in late will automatically be worth half the grade

    Class participation:  Italian will be used for communicationin class.  The use of English will result in loss of points from the marking period grade.

    Classrooom expectations:  Arrive on time with Chromebook charged.  Be prepared to work when the bell rings

    Cell phone policy:  All cell phones should be placed in the assigned slot in the cell phone holder in the front of the room upon entering the classroom unless specifically directed by the instructor to be used for class purposes.

    Teacher availability:  B-13 before and after school, B-Days during Common lunch



    *The grading system will closely reflect the system used on the AP exam.  All materials assigned in class will be assessed for a grade in an ongoing manner.

    Reading comprehension:  20%

    Listening comprehension: 20%

    Speaking performance: 20%

    Writing assessments:  20%

    Vocabulary/Grammar: 20%
