I would like to welcome you to chorus! In my class, we will learn how to sing, perform and read music! We will learn the fundamentals of music through lecture, performance and interaction.
*There will be random material checks that will count as a homework grade.
Along with the school rules, these are the rules that have been established in each class:
1. Be Respectful
2. Be Prepared
3. Keep hands, feet, objects and words to yourself
4. Raise your hand and do not call out
5. Stay on task
6. Follow safety rules and procedures
1st offence: First Warning
2nd offence: 20 pts off participation grade
3rd offence: Send out to TOR/Parental Contact
*Participation/discipline counts for 50%. Please be advised that 2nd and 3rd offences WILL affect your grade!
**I will not tolerate any disrespect in my class. I will not tolerate any student engaging in behavior that is not in the best interest of the class.
Homework/Notebook/Material Check: 25%
*Please note that I may randomly check a “DO NOW” or “DO LATER” assignment which will count as homework grades.

How many concerts are there?
There are 3 required concerts during the year.Winter Orchestra/Chorus Concert- Wednesday- December 12 @7:45pmSpring Orchestra/Chorus Concert- Thursday, May 23 @6:30pmMega Music Palooza- Saturday, May 18 @11-4pmPlease note- YOU MUST ATTEND ALL CONCERTS!!!
The 8th grade chorus will also be performing in a music festival in May during school.
What is concert dress?
Girls: Knee length black skirt ( or longer ) or back pants, black shoes and a white blouse.
Boys: Black pants, black shoes and a white button down shirt with a long tie.
Note: ALL CONCERT ATTIRE MUSIC BE DRESS CODE APPROPRIATE.
Where do I keep my music?
Your music will be kept in a folder and stored in the auditorium. You will be assigned a number. The music in these folders is NOT to go home, as it will be original copies. If you would like to take it home to practice I will provide you with a photocopy that MUST be returned after the concert.
What else do I need for chorus?
You will need a pencil, eraser, folder and notebook for class each day. You may find it useful to get a binder so that you can keep everything together.
Can I earn extra credit in this class?
Yes! Extra credit can be earned by attending a live musical performance of any kind. You must bring me a program or ticket stub as well as a 1 page typed reflection of the performance. The extra credit will be added as 1 point to your overall grade. You may earn up to three points per marking period for each live performance you attend.
So, what kinds of things will affect my grade?
Bad behavior/Unwilling to participate
Please note: If your chorus grade drops to a 70 or below and/or you have 3 or more TOR’s you may not be able to sing in the concert. This could result in a failing grade.
Remember, everyone starts each marking period with an A! Keep it that way!!!
