STEAM and Computer Literacy Philosophy
The computer literacy and STEAM program promotes the use of technology beyond word processing. The program offers many opportunities for integration with classroom activities and topics of study. The goal of STEAM is to integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Cross-curricular units are designed to build on what students have learned or will learn in their science curriculum, math, language arts, and technology. Students are given a series of tasks to complete throughout the unit and a culuminating activity at the end.
Students are challenged by using different applications and encouraged to problem solve along the way. Students will develop and use alternative solutions to the various projects done in the computer lab. The computer literacy program encourages active learning, creativity, curiosity, and sharing throughout the grade level.
