About Mrs. Zabel -Hi and thanks for stopping by. I am your child's 7th grade life science teacher. I am excited to be part of the Madison Junior School team as I begin my 16th year teaching middle school science. I truly enjoy inspiring students and encouraging them to succeed in science and in life. I am always looking for new and different ways to make science fun! I have also taught CSI at Rutgers SPARK program - yes that's right - Crime Scene Investigation just like on TV. I received my Master's in Secondary Science Education at NJCU. My undergraduate work was at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry in Hackensack. I have worked in the pharmaceutical industry first for Merck and then for Marion Merrell Dow. I spent one summer as a Maitland Simmons Scholar from NJSTA where I learned about more innovative and exciting ways to teach science. For several summers, I have taught science (Astronomy and Genetics) at the Summer Institute for the Gifted in Princeton, which I have thoroughly enjoyed. The past few summers I have been the STEM teacher at a local summer camp planning and carrying out engaging and challenging chemistry, engineering, forensics and astronomy activities. It was literally a blast! Going back to fourth grade, I have always had a passion for Science and especially genetics. We will be working together to implement the Next Generation Science Standards also known as NGSS. It is a very engaging approach to solutions to problems and observations of phenomena that occur in the natural world It's never too early to have a goal to reach for! I am looking forward to a sensational and productive year!
