    Madison High School Mathematics

    2019 - 2020 School Year

    I.  Course Description: 

    Geometry is a full year course designed for the average student who is planning on going to college.  Successful completion of Algebra I is a prerequisite.  This course introduces students to deductive reasoning.  This is accomplished through the development of a mathematical system where students learn how to construct proofs.  Students are encouraged to draw and to visualize two and three dimensional figures and to relate what they learn to the world in which they live.  Euclidean geometry as well as coordinate and transformational geometry are introduced and used in the solution of problems.

    II. Required Text & Materials: 

    • Big Ideas Geometry Book

    • Notebook specifically for the class (3-Ring binder preferred)

    • Calculator - TI 84 plus(Highly Recommended) or scientific calculator

    • Chromebook
    • A Pencil  

    III. Grading Policy

    Grades will be calculated using the following:  Homework will count for 10% of your marking period grade.  Homework will be graded using a 0, 1 or 2 point scale.  Assessments (Test, Quizzes, Projects, etc...) will be worth 90% of your marking period grade.  Within each catagory a points system will be used.  

    IV. Late work & Make-up Policy 

    Late work will only be accepted for full credit for an absence or tardy.  Please provide the work the day you return to class.  If you miss class, you are responsible for getting the assignments from a classmate.  If you are absent on the day of a test/quiz, please be prepared to make up the quiz upon your return during your study hall or during class time.  If you know of a planned absence in advance, please see me for the missing assignment(s) for that time period. For extended absences, you will be given 1 days for every day you are absent to make up missed work.

    VI. Classroom Expectations

    All students are expected to turn in assignments on time as well as study for quizzes and tests.

    All students are expected to follow directions and be prepared for class before it starts.

    All students are expected to be respectful of the teacher, other classmates, and the school and property of the school.

    VII. Teacher Availability

    I am available for extra help at 7:15am before school and after school in room C17.  Please email me or let me know in class if you are planning on coming.  I also have availabilty to help at lunch.
