• Tom Liss is excited to be entering his fifth year as the Principal of Central Avenue Elementary School.  He is looking forward to continue to work with all stakeholders to provide a strong learning community where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally.  He believes in a student-centered approach that will give students the strategies and skills to be successful at the next level and beyond.

Mr. Liss joined Madison nine years ago as Assistant Principal at the Junior School.  He arrived from the Bernards Township School District where he was an Assistant Principal at Oak Street Elementary School.  Prior to that role, he was the K-12 District Supervisor of Social Studies, where he supervised the gifted and talented program, instructional support program, observed and evaluated K-12 staff, provided professional development to staff and parents, and worked with basic skills teachers.  Mr. Liss is happy to be at the elementary school level, where he was previously an assistant principal.  Previous to his roles in administration, Mr. Liss was a teacher.  All of these experiences have given Mr. Liss an appreciation of the whole child and how important the school community can be in promoting change that enables students to be successful.

Mr. Liss is married to a reading specialist and has two boys, Michael (10 years old) and Vincent (7 years old).  He grew up in nearby New Providence and loves that he is now working in a small community that supports education and educators.  He has season tickets for the New York Jets, likes the Yankees, Cubs, camping, fishing, traveling, playing sports, and visiting his parents’ house at the  Jersey Shore and on Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos.  Once again, he is excited to be working in such a warm supportive learning environment.  Please feel free to reach out to him if you have questions or concerns.
