FOOD ALLERGY

Food Allergy is a serious medical condition affecting up to 15 million people in the United States, including 1 in 13 children. A food allergy results when the immune system mistakenly targets a harmless food protein- an allergen- as a threat and attacks it. Although nearly any food is capable of causing an allergic reaction, only eight foods account for 90 percent of all food-allergic reactions in the United States. These foods are: Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Milk, Egg, Wheat, Soy, Fish and Shellfish.

At Kings Road School, we follow an Food Allergy Aware Environment. For the health and safety of all our students, we request that all classrooms and common areas (except for the Cafeteria) remain Peanut and Nut free. Peanut and Nut products are allowed for lunch, only if eaten in the Cafeteria. For further information please read the Food Allergy Guidelines.

In the event your child has a food allergy, please contact the school nurse, Mrs. Moran at 973-593-3178 ext. 3180 to discuss what further assistance your child will require to manage his or her allergy at school. Also, please complete the following and return it to the school nurse:
