• Teaching faculty ensure that placement recommendations are made with careful thought and deliberation after considering relevant student performance data and study habits. Students and parents are urged to respect these placement decisions since the classroom teacher is best positioned to measure student ability against the demands of the curriculum. However, an override process exists for those who wish to apply for an alternate placement for their child.
     
    At the Madison Junior School, the Language Arts program offers an "Accelerated" program in Grades 7 and 8. The criteria for placement in an "Accelerated" level course is as follows:
     
    6th Grade to 7th Grade Accelerated: (Student Must Meet 3 of 4 Criteria)
    • Student Grades (95% Average for Marking Periods 2 & 3 Combined)
    • Teacher Recommendation (Academic Skills Rubric)
    • Teacher Recommendation (Study Skills Rubric)
    • Writing Prompt (Minimum Score 3.5/4)
    • Standardized Test Results (Referenced as Needed)
    7th Grade to 8th Grade:
     
    To Remain in Accelerated Language Arts: (Student Must Meet 5 of 7 Criteria)
    • Student Grades (B+ Average for 3 Marking Periods w/ No More Than One B-)

    • Placement Diagnostic (Minimum Score of B+)
    • Literary Analysis Writing (B+ Average)

    At Madison High School, the Language Arts program offers an "Honors" program in Grades 9 through 11 and several Advanced Placement Courses for qualified seniors. The criteria for placement in an "Honors" level course is as follows:
