Working with grants from the Morris County Heritage Commission and the New Jersey Historical Commission, six students in Dr. DeBiasse's USI class created an educational coloring book which told the story of the Madison Fire Department. Students conducted research using resources provided by the Madison Historical Society and created illustrations depicting major events in the long and storied history of the organization. Particular attention was given to Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge and her generous support of the Madison Fire Department. Mrs. Dodge is credited with constructing the Hartley Dodge Memorial building, which housed the fire department until recently and with donating state-of-the-art fire fighting equipment, including a 1920 Ahrens-Fox P4 fire truck which has been located and brought back to Madison with the help of charitable contributions. The coloring book also provides fire safety tips and other information and will play a key role in future "Fire Prevention Safety Week" activities.
