HANDS-ON HISTORY

FRENCH FAMILIES RESEARCH PROJECT

Students in Dr. De Biasse's United States History I class investigated the French influence on the history of our community. Students first explored the three "waves" of immigration from France to the New World/United States, starting with the French Huguenots in the late 17th century and culminating with the large number of French exiles who fled Revolutionary France for American shores. The students then decided to focus their research on several prominent French settlers who had a significant impact on the history and development of Bottle Hill. A field trip was planned as students were granted permission to access the Madison Historical Society archives in search of additional information. Students were asked to create tri-fold display posters about their assigned family and presented these at the March 19th meeting of the Madison Historical Society.
