Elementary/MJS: West Windsor-Plainsboro Math Tournament Oct. 27, 2018

The West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South Math Club will be hosting its annual WW-P Math Tournament (WWPMT). It will be a fun day of math with games and prizes and is open to students in grades 3-8. This year's tournament will be held on Saturday, October 27th. MJS: AMC 8 (American Mathematics Competition) Nov. 13, 2018

We are excited to announce that the Madison Junior School will once again be participating in the AMC 8. The contest is designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills and is open to anyone wanting to participate. Additional purposes of the AMC 8 are to promote excitement, enthusiasm, and positive attitudes towards mathematics and to stimulate interest in continuing the study of mathematics.

This year, the contest will be held on Tuesday, November 13th right after school in the cafeteria. It will be a 25 question, 40-minute multiple-choice examination in middle school mathematics.

The examination provides an opportunity to apply the concepts taught at the junior high level to problems which not only range from easy to difficult but also cover a wide range of applications. High scoring students are invited to participate in the AMC 10.

A Certificate of Distinction is given to all students who receive a perfect score. An AMC 8 Winner Pin is given to the student(s) in each school with the highest score. The top three students for each school section will receive respectively a gold, silver, or bronze Certificate for Outstanding Achievement. An AMC 8 Honor Roll Certificate is given to all high scoring students. An AMC 8 Merit Certificate is given to high scoring students who are in 6th grade or below.

If you are interested in participating, please sign-up with your math teacher by Monday, October 8th. You will also need to complete the permission slip and return it to your teacher by Tuesday, November 6th.

MJS: Annual AMTNJ Middle School Mathematics Contest Dec. 12, 2018

We are excited to announce that this year the Madison Junior School will again be participating in the Annual AMTNJ Middle School Mathematics Contest. The contest is open to anyone wanting to participate and will be held on Wednesday, December 12th right after school in the cafeteria.

It will be a 45-minute working session. Calculators are permitted but cannot be shared. The contest covers material from 6th grade through Algebra 1. Although the contest is open to anyone wanting to participate, only the top 5 answer sheets will be submitted to AMTNJ to represent our “school team.” There will be awards presented to the top three students and the top three participating schools. The top prizes will be trophies to schools and certificates to individuals.

In order to participate, you must sign up and obtain a permission slip from your math teacher. Permission slips are due back to your math teacher by Friday, December 7th.

MHS: Annual AMTNJ High School Mathematics Contest Dec. 12, 2018

It’s that time of year for the Annual AMTNJ High School Mathematics Contest. This year the contest will be held on Wednesday, December 12th in the media center from 2:45-3:45 pm. The contest will be a 45-minute working session with the use of calculators (the same ones allowed for the SAT I). The contest covers material from pre-algebra through pre-calculus. The contest is open to anyone wishing to participate, but only the top 5 answer sheets will be submitted to AMTNJ to represent our “school team.” There will be awards presented to the top students, top three participating schools overall, and the top three schools in each division, which is based on school size.

MHS: AMC 10 and AMC 12 (American Mathematics Competition) Feb. 7, 2019

It’s that time of year for the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC10 and AMC12). This year the contest will be held on Thursday, February 7th from 2:45 pm to 4:15 pm in the media center.

The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are each 25 questions, 75-minute multiple-choice examinations in secondary school mathematics containing problems which can be understood and solved with algebra and geometry concepts for the AMC 10 and pre-calculus concepts for the AMC 12. Calculators are not allowed.

Approximately 12 questions are common to the AMC 10 and AMC 12.

The Mathematical Association of America recommends you study prior-year copies of the AMC 10 and AMC 12 contest and solutions. The Art of Problem Solving has contests and solutions from the past 14 years on their website.

AMC Advantage is another opportunity to prepare for the AMC contests. It consists of 4 'on-demand' mock contests along with comprehensive performance reporting to help students prepare very effectively. Enrollment is open at amc-advantage.com

If you score 100 or above or finish in the top 5% (whichever is more inclusive) on the AMC 12 or score 120 or above or finish in the top 2.5% (whichever is more inclusive) on the AMC 10, you are eligible to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). The AMC will automatically send a copy of the first date AIME contest to the school contest manager for each student achieving a qualifying score. You will be notified if you qualify. There are also medals, pins, certificates, etc. for various achievements.
