Madison High School Participates in US Department of State Hometown Diplomat Program

On Friday, September 28, Madison High School welcomed back Mr. Robert Post (Class of 1983) who is now a diplomat with the United States Foreign Service. Mr. Post talked at length about his preparation for a career in the foreign service, stressing the value of his study of world languages, which began during his years at MHS. Fluent in Russian and several other languages, Mr. Post worked for the United States Information Agency in the former Soviet Union and later in several of the newly independent nations created from the collapse of the Soviet empire. He has also been posted in the newly independent nation of Slovenia and will begin his next tour in neighboring Croatia.

Mr. Post was interviewed by students from Richard Bradshaw's Current Affairs class in the MHS "Little Theater". Students in Dani Bratton's Television Production class worked the studio equipment and then edited the taped interview which will be made available to interested members of the school community.

Students in MHS social studies classes were granted ample opportunity to ask questions about US foreign policy following the presentation. Mr. Post shared numerous stories and anecdotes from his travels around the globe. His visit was an inspiring and educational experience for all and helped students to better understand how American "soft power" is applied throughout the world.
