CHROMEBOOK FAQ

  • Is Madison a "one-to-one" school district?

    Yes. Every student has access to a Dell Chromebook throughout the school day.

  • Which students are assigned their own Chromebooks?

    All students at the Junior School and High School (Grades 6-12) are assigned a Chromebook for individual use.

  • Do students get "brand-new" Chromebooks, cases, and chargers?

    Not necessarily. Many of the Chromebooks are re-used. The Tech Department looks at all returned equipment to make sure it is in good working condition before these devices are re-assigned to students.

  • Can I bring my Chromebook home?

    Yes. Junior and High School students are allowed to bring their Chromebooks home. However, it is the students' responsibility to make sure their Chromebooks are charged BEFORE coming to school each day.

  • What equipment is provided to each student?

    Students are provided a Dell Chromebook, protective case, and charger.

  • Will I have to pay for Chromebook insurance?

    As of the 2023-2024 school year, Madison Public Schools is not charging for Chromebook insurance.

    This rule is subject to change next school year.

  • What should I do if my Chromebook, charger, or case are DAMAGED?

    If your Chromebook is malfunctioning or has been physically damaged, please bring it to your school's main office as soon as possible. DO NOT try to fix a damaged Chromebook yourself.

    If your charger or case is damaged, bring them to the main office, and they will let you know if a replacement is available.

  • How long does it take to repair my Chromebook? We try our best to repair and resolve Chromebook issues on-site, which may be returned as soon as the same day. However, damaged Chromebooks or those needing replacement parts will take longer and may not be returned.

  • Will I be fined for a damaged Chromebook, charger, or case?

    If damage is determined to be intentional, you are required to pay the cost of the damaged equipment.

  • What should I do if I LOSE my Chromebook, charger, or case?

    If you lose your Chromebook, charger, or case, please notify your main office immediately. Lost Chromebooks are deactivated by the Tech Dept. to prevent others from using it.

  • Will I be fined for a lost Chromebook, charger, or case?

    Yes, you are required to pay the cost of lost equipment.

  • How much does it cost to replace lost/damaged equipment?

  • I found cheaper equipment online. Can I buy that instead of paying the fee(s)? No. We work with a specific vendor to ensure warranties are valid, equipment is consistent, and replacement parts are available.

  • What should I do if my Chromebook is STOLEN?

    If you believe your Chromebook has been stolen, you must file an official report of theft with the Madison Police Department.

  • Who can I contact if I have a question/concern about my Chromebook?

    MHS Students - If you have an issue with your Chromebook, please bring it to the main office, and they will be able to assist you.

    MJS Students - If you have an issue with your Chromebook, please see Mrs. Kelly in the main office.
