Recognitions
Congratulations to senior Kate Mack who has been selected as the Madison High School representative for National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). Each year high schools across the country select one female that embodies the true characteristics of sports performance and leadership qualities. This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. Kate will be honored at halftime of the Rutgers Women’s Basketball game on February 8th.
Congratulations to our fall sports programs on historic seasons across the board that included one county (field hockey), four sectional (volleyball, field hockey, boys and girls soccer), and one state championship (boys soccer).
AP Exam Payments
Any student enrolled in an AP class, should have received a join code from their AP teacher to join their AP Classroom. Students should log into their College Board account to make sure they see all of their AP classes listed. All students enrolled in an AP class must sit for the AP exam. All payments are due by December 23rd. Head to the guidance department webpage for directions on how to make an AP payment through Arbiter. Please see Ms. Internicola or your guidance counselor with any questions.
26-27 Course Recommendations
Teachers will begin to make course recommendations for the 26-27 school year on Genesis. Juniors will be able to see these recommendations by January 14th. Sophomores and Freshmen can see their recommendations by February 13th. Counselors will meet with students shortly after those dates to begin building their schedule for next year. We encourage students to reach out to their teachers to discuss their recommendations and potential courses for next year. A course offerings guide for the 26-27 school year will be released after the new year.
11th Grade Information Night
Juniors and their families are invited to attend 11th Grade Information Night on Thursday, January 8th at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Our counseling team will deliver information on rising college trends, college matriculation, the Common Application, the college essay, standardized testing, teacher’s letter of recommendation, student transcripts, and key factors in the college application process. In addition, they will be reviewing the SCOIR platform, a college search and planning network that is designed to assist students and their parents/guardians in making informed decisions about college opportunities and career choices. 11th grade conferences will begin in mid-January. The Guidance Department has created a pre-conference checklist with helpful links that can be found by clicking this link.
11th Grade In-School SAT
An optional, in-school SAT will be offered to 11th grade students on Wednesday, April 15th. Juniors who are interested in sitting for the test, must register by March 27th. Please click this link for a letter from Ms. Internicola on how to register. In addition, Educational Services Center will offer an SAT Prep class with practice exams at a reduced rate to MHS students in the lead up to the in-school SAT. Please click this link for more information on how to register. Please reach out to your child’s counselor for other prep courses and options, not offered at the high school
Class of 2026 Reminders
College Application Tracking - Seniors must remember to input college application results in SCOIR as they begin to hear back from their applied schools. This helps us better track the trends occurring each year with college acceptances. Those students who have accepted their placement and have committed to their college or university of choice should remember to withdraw their applications from other schools in order to not take a possible spot away from another student.
Scholarship Snapshot - There are several scholarship opportunities available to the Class of 2026. Guidance will continue to update this list with other opportunities as the year progresses. Seniors should bookmark this spreadsheet and check regularly for updates. Please reach out to Ms. Redmond in guidance with any questions.
NJ Financial Aid Graduation Requirement - Last year, the state of New Jersey passed a new graduation requirement that makes the completion of a financial aid application form a prerequisite to obtaining a diploma for public high school students in the Classes of 2025, 2026, and 2027. Please click this link for additional information and the waiver form. If you have additional questions, please contact your child’s counselor.
