Madison High School is proud to announce the names of 11 commended students in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. They placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 competition by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). Thursday, September 24th is a “Straight 8” day. There will be no support block and classes will run until 2:40 pm. All students should attend their PE class in the period it is scheduled in lieu of any lab or study hall.
TCNJ Dual Enrollment Presentation
Madison High School has significantly increased its dual enrollment opportunities for students in the 26-27 school year providing students the ability to simultaneously earn high school and college credits for the courses they take at Madison High School. On Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:00 pm, Christina Cirigliano, Coordinator of Dual Enrollment at The College of New Jersey, will offer families a presentation and review important information about eligibility, registration, tuition and payment, earning TCNJ college credit, transcripts and other frequently asked questions. Back to School Night
On Wednesday, September 23rd, the Madison High School administration, faculty, and staff are excited to invite parents and guardians to meet their children’s teachers for the 26-27 school year. Mr. Drechsel will welcome all families at 6:15 pm in the auditorium and the first period will begin at 7:05 pm. A schedule and more information will be shared closer to the event.
Underclassmen Pictures
9th, 10th, and 11th grade students are scheduled to have their pictures taken during their physical education classes on September 23rd and 24th. Any student in zero period or who is unable to get their photo taken during PE may have their picture taken during lunch, their study hall, or the support period. Homecoming Dance
Tickets to the Homecoming Dance on Friday, September 25th will be sold during the support block in Room A3 on Tuesday, September 22nd and Tuesday, October 23rd. Tickets will be $15 if you buy them in advance and $20 at the door. More details regarding the event will be distributed separately.
National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
All students that were admitted into the Madison High School Chapter of the National Honor Society during the 25-26 school year will be officially inducted on Monday, September 28th at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Service Learning Website
Students are encouraged to bookmark and visit Madison High School’s service learning website. The website explains the philosophy of the service learning program at MHS including a description of the annual Day of Service. Volunteer opportunities will be posted and updated regularly and students are able to log and keep track of volunteer hours through this page. All questions regarding service opportunities and hours can be directed towards Mr. Cecala and Mr. Monaco.
Driver Education State Exam Information
All 10th graders will take their written driver's test electronically on the computer through the NJ Department of Motor Vehicle. Our teachers must upload each student's name, birthdate, email, and preferred language into the system prior to students taking the test in mid-to-late October. 10th graders must submit the information requested within this linked form by Friday, October 2nd. The form can only be completed after students sign in to their Madison email account. Please double check your responses as the accuracy is paramount to 10th graders receiving their permit. If there are questions, please reach out to your child’s Driver Education teacher.
College Representative Visits
This fall, college representatives from different colleges and universities around the country will be visiting Madison High School. Juniors and seniors can find a full list of visiting colleges and sign up for meetings under “Visits and Deadlines” on the homepage of their SCOIR account or under their student icon. Students must remember a few important things when signing up for College Rep visits:
Let their teacher know that they will be missing class
They are responsible for any missed work
If they choose not to attend after registering, please cancel the visit in SCOIR
County College of Morris Regional College Fair
Representatives from CCM and more than 125 colleges and universities from the tri-state, New England, Mid-Atlantic region and beyond will be taking part in a Regional College Fair on Sunday, September 20th, from noon to 3 p.m. on the CCM campus, 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph. Visitors can park in Lots 7 & 8.
Financial Aid Night
The Guidance Department will host a Virtual Financial Aid Night for 12th Grade students and their families on Thursday, October 8th at 7:00 pm. Retired financial advisor Ed Zamora will be providing information about the latest changes to the FAFSA and the application process. Ninth Grade Parent Night
The MHS Guidance team invites all ninth grade parents to an in-person meet and greet Thursday, October 15th at 7:00 pm. This will be an opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s guidance counselor and learn a little bit more about the transition to high school. The Role of the Student Assistance Counselor & Parent Workshops
Ms. Russo, MHS Student Assistant Counselor (SAC), is a support system for students in the school environment who may be experiencing social, emotional, or academic struggles. In addition, Ms. Russo works with professional organizations, as well as local partners, to stay informed on the most up to date programs, treatments, and statistics for mental health. Reminders Regarding Personal Belongings
Students are reminded that any personal belongings that they bring with them to school (keys, phone, wallet, etc.) should be locked and secured during the school day and after school. Too often, specifically when students are at their after school activity, students leave items out in the open. Students are reminded they are all assigned hallway lockers that can be used to store items and may borrow or bring in their own lock if they would like to use a PE locker. In addition, students who ride their bikes to school should secure them to the bike rack.
Student Leadership Opportunity - MEF Liaison
The Madison Education Foundation (MEF) is introducing a new Student Liaison role for two high school juniors or seniors to represent student perspectives and connect schools with the Foundation. Each liaison will design and lead a community project that raises funds for MEF, while also supporting at least one major Foundation event. Participants will be asked to attend at least two monthly board meetings per semester, gaining hands-on leadership, marketing, and nonprofit experience. Interested 11th and 12th graders can apply via Google Form by Sunday, September 27th.
MEF Tailgate
Wear your favorite college or hometown gear and enjoy a fun evening with friends and neighbors at the MEF Tailgate on October 10th at 7:00 pm at Rose Hall. The event will feature local food trucks, craft beer, themed cocktails, live music, a DJ, cornhole, and our popular silent auction. For more than 20 years, MEF has invested over $2.3 million in innovative programs that enrich the educational experience of Madison students. Every ticket, bid, sponsorship, and wine pull contribution helps fund grants that bring new opportunities directly to our schools.
