Following past practice of the Madison Public School District, children registering for Kindergarten are not assured placement in their attendance area. Based upon registration and school capacity,  the child may be enrolled in any elementary school. Transportation considerations will be based on residency and school placement. Elementary school placement decisions will be made mid-summer. 

The entrance dates listed below are governed by Madison Board of Education Policy 5112. 

• Children whose parent(s)/guardian(s) live in Madison and who will be five years old on or before October 1,  are eligible to register for Kindergarten   

• Children whose parent(s)/guardian(s) live in Madison and who will be six years old on or before October 1, are eligible to register for first grade  

Kindergarten new registrations:  Based on past practice .... for families enrolling a Kindergarten student without elementary-age siblings, your child will be assigned to a school in early to mid-August. The criteria for the school selection will be based on the date of COMPLETED registration as well as our practice of balancing class sizes among the schools.

In order to make your registration as smooth and efficient as possible, you will need to upload a series of documents. It is crucial to collect all required documentation prior to starting the online registration process.  The registration process must be completed in one session and Google Chrome is the recommended web browser.   

The following forms and documents are required:

• Completed Universal Child Health Record (completed by Physician and including immunization records)

• Completed Parent Health History

• Birth Certificate OR US Passport

• Proof of Residency:

  • Homeowner:  One (1) of the following:  

    • property tax bill

    • deed

    • current mortgage statement 

  • Renter:  One (1) of the following:  

    • lease with all pages  - signed/dated by all parties 

    • Owner Landlord Affidavit to be completed and notarized 

  • Month to Month - proof of rent receipt or canceled rent check

• Utility bills:  Two (2) of the following:  

  • PSE&G bill

  • phone bill

  • water bill

  • cable bill

  • bank statement

  • NJ Vehicle registration

  • Voter Registration

• Valid New Jersey Driver’s Licenses for both parents - (if address has not been changed, a DMV online  address change confirmation to be provided)

• Other:   Custody agreement (if applicable)

• Transfer of Records Form (excluding Kindergarten) 

Once you have collected and completed all the forms listed above, the registration process is finalized online via the Genesis Parent Portal. This process takes approximately 30 minutes.
