Madison HS Moves Up in the US News Rankings

In the recently released US News & World Report national high school rankings, Madison HS has been recognized for its success overall and as a STEM school. The rankings, which were released during the week of April 20, 2020, place Madison as the 28th ranked high school in New Jersey and the 16th ranked STEM high school. The rankings are based on data from the 2017-2018 academic year and the school profile can be found here.

With the removal of the public magnet schools, Madison HS improved from 15th overall in 2018 to 13th overall in 2019 in the overall high school rankings. In the STEM rankings, Madison improved from unranked in 2018 to 9th overall in the state in 2019.

The continued success of Madison HS has come not only from the dedicated staff and administration at the school but also the combined efforts of all district personnel who support a comprehensive system of K-12 education. That professional work coupled with an engaged and active parent community has made Madison shine in recent years and will ensure that the district and its high school will continue to be successful for many years to come.

US News adjusted its methodology for its 2019 national rankings, and at that time Madison was ranked as the 32nd best high school in New Jersey and unranked in the STEM category. The adjusted methodology also includes public magnet schools, which have largely dominated the top 15 spots within the comparisons. These public magnet schools employ a selective admissions criteria, which both limits their population size and allows them to serve only students with a certain type of academic background.
