JOHN ESCHMANN, DIRECTOR OF FACILITIES

John Eschmann was hired as the Director of Facilities and began working with the Madison Public Schools in August of 2020. Mr. Eschmann joined the school district at the height of the COVID pandemic and was faced with many new challenges and procedures to initiate in time for the opening of school. Mr. Eschmann works very closely with the Buildings and Grounds team, the Administration and the Board of Education to ensure the students and staff of the Madison School District remain as safe and healthy as possible. Mr. Eschmann has helped initiate protocols for both the custodial and maintenance teams, as well as developing a culture of accountability and sustainability for the Buildings and Grounds staff.

Mr. Eschmann began his career as a Union Carpenter, in Madison, New Jersey, Local 620, when he was in his early twenties. Mr. Eschmann worked on various construction projects in that industry for over 30 years. Mr. Eschmann spent five years working in Construction Administration for an architectural firm, primarily overseeing school construction. Some of the recent projects he was involved in were, a Charter School in Montclair, New Jersey, several buildings on the Picatinny Arsenal base, and a middle school on the West Point campus. Mr. Eschmann began his Facilities Manager duties in his hometown working for the Roxbury Public School District from 2012 through 2017. Looking to broaden his horizons, Mr. Eschmann filled the Buildings and Grounds Director position with the Montclair Public School District – this position had been vacant for 10 years. Mr. Eschmann spent three years in Montclair developing and implementing protocols for the custodial and maintenance teams. As a veteran Director of Facilities, Mr. Eschmann has found a home in Madison and believes he can build upon their operational and planning processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness throughout the district.

Mr. Eschmann enjoys spending as much time with his family as possible. Traveling with his wife, tinkering in the garage, taking walks with his dog Jackson and most recently being a new grandfather to Bennet and Abigail.
