Knowledge, Inspiration, Character

Dodger families,

We hope that this message finds you and your loved ones healthy. As you know, the MPS District Goals assert our commitment to the high achievement of all students and the empowerment of every child. Recently, our elementary PTOs have responded to this call by securing a unique opportunity for our parents to learn more about the social and emotional needs of children from  a widely respected expert in the field of child development and psychology, Dr. Maurice Elias. To learn more about this event and other matters of importance to our community, please consider the topics below.

Elementary PTOs are generously hosting an SEL workshop for parents with Dr. Elias of Rutgers University on Thursday, 1/27 at 7:30pm.

Please join our PTOs for this important presentation with Dr. Maurice Elias, Professor of Psychology, Director of Rutgers’ Social Emotional and Character Development Lab, Co-Director of the Ruggers-based Academy for SEL in Schools, and member of the Leadership Teams for SEL4NJ and SEL4US. Dr. Elias will be presenting on a range of topics affecting elementary school students and their families such as emotional regulation, navigating peer conflict, and resiliency. MPS is grateful for the generosity and efforts of the KRS, CAS, and TJS PTOs. We strongly encourage elementary parents to attend.

The 2022 Superintendent Coffees will focus on Long Term Facilities Planning and other district improvement efforts

These virtual public forums welcome parent engagement on a monthly basis, usually on the evening before the Board Meeting. Each session begins with a presentation from the district leadership team on a timely matter of importance, and is followed by a Q&A session for attendees. This Spring, our meetings will focus primarily on the finalization of the district Long Term Facilities Plan. Please see our dedicated Facilities Planning webpage for more information. Additional coffee topics will be announced in advance of each event. Links for the Coffees will be emailed and posted to the website on the day of the session. We hope that you join us.

COVID rates are in decline; MPS Rules for Return are available on the district website.

As the NJDOH periodically updates their guidance, please continue to rely on the MPS Rules for Return on the district website. Our site is updated once new NJDOH guidance is reviewed by our administration, health professionals, and the Madison Department of Health. As a reminder, individuals with COVID-like symptoms should stay home, consult the Rules for Return, and contact their school nurse.

Thank you for taking the time to consider these important updates. Please also note that Superintendent Mark Schwarz will be presenting a summary of the 2021 State of the Schools Address to the Borough Council at their virtual meeting this Monday, January 24, 2022. If you have not viewed the recorded presentation and would like to hear an overview of the Address, please join the Council meeting virtually at 8pm

I hope that the coming weeks continue to bring fewer COVID cases and increased opportunities to enjoy your friends and family.
