MPS families,

I am happy to report that we have had a joy-filled week welcoming back all of our faculty members, greeting newly-enrolled students, and planning an exciting return to school on Monday. For those who may be interested in seeing the 2022-23 Opening Number from today’s Convocation Ceremony, the video has been added to our website.

As you enter your last weekend of the summer break, please consider these important updates:

Last week’s Superintendent Coffee and Board Meeting recordings are now on the district website.

Throughout these meetings, we discussed 2022-23 school year topics, including educational initiatives, the anticipated facilities referendum proposal, curriculum revisions, new courses, newly hired school administrators, and proposed policy changes. All Superintendent Coffee recordings are available on the Superintendent’s webpage. Board meeting recordings are available on the district website in the menu under “Board of Education.

Very high classroom temperatures may necessitate early-dismissal schedules for students in the coming weeks.

Due to the consistent sunshine, warm evenings, and hot daytime temperatures, many of our classrooms across the district are reaching the high 80s each afternoon. If this trend continues as forecasted, it will become necessary to shift our schools to early-dismissal schedules to provide relief. We recognize that such schedule changes present hardships to many families and will provide as much advanced notice as possible to allow parents to adjust their schedules if this decision is made. Parents should be aware that the district will include air conditioning for all schools in a referendum proposal presented this fall.

Madison Public Schools are in need of P/T and F/T Substitute Teachers and Teacher Assistants for the 2022-23 school year.

If you or someone you know is interested in an opportunity to work with students and become a part of our school community, please consider the important work of substitute teachers and teacher assistants. Our school district is in need of caring individuals to serve in these critical capacities on a part-time or full-time basis. If you are interested in joining our team to support our staff and students as a substitute teacher or teacher assistant, please contact Executive Secretary Patti Cleary at clearyp@madisonnjps.org.

Mark Schwarz
