Knowledge, Inspiration, Character

MPS families,

I hope that you have been able to enjoy the unusually warm fall weather this Veteran's Day weekend.  On behalf of Madison Public Schools, I want to thank all Madisonian veterans and their families for their sacrifices made in securing our freedoms.

As our students wrap up their first marking periods and Thanksgiving approaches, please take a few minutes to consider the following updates.

Please continue to participate in the Curriculum and Instruction Thoughtexchange.

This new exchange was launched at our October Superintendent Coffee. This exchange is designed to provide community members with the ability to share their observations, values, and suggestions with our new Director of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Donna Gallo. All Superintendent Coffee recordings and presentations which include the results of prior Thoughtexchanges are available on the Superintendent page of the District website. This new Thoughtexchange will remain open until December 9, 2022.

The MPS State of the Schools Address has been rescheduled to January (date TBD).

As the NJ Department of Education has not yet released the complete data set for the Spring 2022 assessments, we must wait to be able to complete our analyses that are a central part of the State of the Schools Address. In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more about student outcomes on these assessments, there will be an initial presentation of results at our November Board meeting on Tuesday, November 15, at approximately 7:15pm. The meeting will be accessible to in-person attendance, as well as via Zoom and Youtube.

Please join me and members of the MPS district administration at Monday’s Superintendent Coffee

We will be addressing some important topics related to district planning and preparations for the January State of the Schools Address, including

  • The Curriculum and Instruction Thoughtexchange

  • The referendum planning process

  • Student and parent climate surveys for 2022-23

  • Student data privacy

I hope that you enjoy a peaceful Thanksgiving with your loved ones and I look forward to speaking to you again soon!

Sincerely,

Mark Schwarz

Superintendent of Madison Public Schools
